Introduction to Watercolors
If you have ever thought you would like to explore the wonderful world of watercolor, here is the workshop for you!
This one day workshop is created for beginners to get them started on the right foot. The day will give students an overview of the basics such as setting up a palette and understanding all of the materials. It also will cover concepts of modeling form, handling color and values, and which techniques to employ to handle various subject matter. This is ideal for students who want to feel more prepared join a regular class and need general knowledge and some exercises to help them grow artistically.
Kay will start with understanding your materials, stretching paper, basic design and the color wheel. In the afternoon, we will practice brushstrokes and work with creating basic shapes. Also covered are various approaches to watercolor ie; painting wet into wet, and wet on dry and glazing techniques.
Even students with some experience will greatly benefit from the tools and techniques that Kay has developed during 40 + years painting in watercolor. Join us for a lively and informative adventure in painting!
You will need basic supplies for this workshop. Please check the resources page for the supply list. You don’t need everything on the list, but buy the best you can afford. Basic colors, a couple of brushes, and 140-lb Arches cold pressed paper are a must. You can get your supplies locally at Tara Jennings Fine Art in Woodinville. She carries all you will need to get started at competitive prices. Tara orders in materials that Kay highly recommends.
